Stanford, the seat of
Lincoln County, is the second oldest settlement in the state of
Kentucky. Stanford is served by U.S. Highways 27 and 150 as well as
State Highways 78 and 300.
As the second oldest settlement in Kentucky, Stanford has no shortage
of historic sites to visit. One of the most intriguing is the William
Whitley House, a state historic site. Not only is this one of the
first brick homes built west of the Allegheny Mountains, it is also
the site of the first circular racetrack in the state, where horses
were raced in the uniquely American counter-clockwise pattern for the
first time.
Stanford is host to many unique shops for antique and craft
enthusiasts.
With its tangible sense of history plus so many amenities and
attractions, it's easy to see why anyone would be drawn to the
Stanford area. |
